Wow Boy charms Symphony Hall.
May 5, 2019
The exclamation of nine-year-old Ronan Mattin of New Hampshire, who is on the autism spectrum, breaks the silence at the conclusion of the Handel and Hayden Society’s performance of Mozart’s Masonic Funeral. The boy’s comment produces laughter and applause from the rest of the audience and is audible on a recording by WCRB-FM Radio, and he is subsequently invited to be a guest at future concerts as its guest. Concert-goer William Agush sends a tweet to the organization that says, “In a world of tablets and the web, you blew the mind of a kid with music. . . Bravo!” A children’s picture book on the subject is published in 2024.*
